Log Report from Intelligent USB Duplicator
To prevent unauthorized access and accidental deletion, password protection
can be enabled to safeguard the log. And if you don’t need the whole history logged,
there is a filter to let you retrieve the report for—
  • Today
  • Most recent days
  • Specific period

After the report is downloaded to your flash memory card/USB flash drive to be
accessed on your PC/notebook, it can be conveniently reviewed or printed.

Besides being instrumental in improved production efficiency for managers, the

Log Report assists engineers and purchasers in gauging the quality of the flash
media, and it also makes a perfect presentation for sales to deliver to their
prospects or customers. Overall, Intelligent 9’s Log Report is essential to your

NAB Review

Thank You for Stopping by Our Booth

Last month TeraMotions attended the NAB Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV April 14th -19th.    We enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by our booth.  Reporter James E. O'Neal stopped by our booth to speak with TeraMotions and to snap a few pictures.  O'Neal even featured U-Reach, along with a picture of the U-Reach booth and U-Reach's representative, Faith Her, in his news article for the NAB Show Daily News.  Her is seen here holding U-Reach's copy-protected USBs and behind her are the Intelligent 9 Flash Duplicators that debuted in January of this year.  You can read O'Neal's full article here.

Product Review: CF916-g

U-Reach's Intelligent CF Duplicator Gold Edition
Following the introduction of Intelligent CF duplicator in Jan 2012, U-Reach has recently released a Gold Edition, nicknamed Golden Fox, to better serve the more demanding professionals.

Burn-in testing is one of the two major enhancements.  For factories or businesses that are meticulous in the quality of their CF cards, this utility helps them pick out the bad apples by continuously writing and verifying data for a desired number of cycles or specified duration (30 min to 30 days).  With models available from 8 to 120 ports, the Golden Fox performs burn-in on all ports simultaneously.

The other addition is the logging capability.  For users who need detailed job reports for auditing or trouble-shooting purposes, Golden Fox can store up to 30,000 records and dump them all in a CF.  A typical record starts with a sequence number and timestamp, followed by port ID, status and task performed, then concludes with card-specific information such as brand, model and serial number.  There’s an optional password protection on all logged records.

Retailed at $2,099 for the 16-port model, Golden Fox costs about 30% more than its Silver predecessor.

U-Reach's 1:1 HDD Duplicator IQ112

Need to Duplicate Your Hard Drive?

Following in the footsteps of the award-winning PRO118 (covered in our Dec 2011 newsletter and in our January blog post), the IQ112 is another winner in U-Reach’s portable HDD duplicator family.   Here’s an excerpt from a five-star review by a satisfied Amazon customer—“Great product, super fast copying, skips bad sectors, great for data recovery, love it. Highly recommended... Copying an unrecoverable drive now, it is digging through the bad sectors, very simple operation.”  Though we’ve never doubted the quality of this duplicator, an acknowledgment from a user who has actually benefited from using it is the most gratifying experience!

Retailed at $129, the IQ122 copies from your source to target HDD with a press of either the "Quick-Copy" or the "Whole" button — the former skips non-occupied storage when the source hard drive is formatted as FAT/NTFS or Ext2/Ext3 file system, while the latter copies the whole drive.  Furthermore, data can be transferred up to 90 MB/sec (a bit more than 3 hours to copy a whole 1TB depending on your HDD speed) via SATA cables shipped with the duplicator.  For IDE drives, you will need an IDE-SATA adapter to use this duplicator.

Overall, the IQ122 is a reliable handy tool for home and office whenever a HDD duplication job needs to be taken care of.

PRO118 HDD Duplicator Awarded "Outstanding IT"

Congratulations!

It is no surprise that U-Reach, the veteran in duplicator business, won the “2011 Outstanding IT Applications/Products Award” in Taiwan–with their diversified lineup of quality media duplicators of all grades and sizes, the awarded PRO118, a portable 1-1 HDD duplicator, is just one of jewels from the Carry line geared towards small businesses.  However, don’t be fooled by its size, capabilities of PRO118 put it up there
with other professional tools.  With data transfer rate up to 90MB/sec while copying 2.5” or 3.5” HDD through SATA and IDE interfaces, intelligent power control to prevent HDD damages, and DoD erase to ensure complete data cleansing, this portable HDD duplicator does it all!  And we haven’t even mentioned its flexible copy modes to guarantee efficiency when HDDs of recognized file system formats such as FAT, NTFS, and Linux Ext are to be copied.  All features considered, the retail price tag of $249 probably seems a fair deal.

Are you sure it's my flash?

How to Find the Culprit of a Duplication Failure

If you frequently use flash duplicators to copy usb drives, it’s probably not unusual that you have experienced a duplication failure in the middle of the process.  Let us assume your duplicators are built with quality, so the culprit is really the USB drive, source or target (or both). For those who really want to know more about the causes, we take this opportunity to share our troubleshooting experiences. Before we dig in, bear in mind that a standard USB drive consists of two chips: controller and NAND flash.

And when we conclude a drive is responsible for failed duplication, it’s got to be some glitch over one or a combination of these three: 1) controller; 2) flash; 3) connection in between. To narrow down on the culprit, we advise you to conduct further read/write testing on a PC.  With help from flash testing tool such as H2testw, you can repeatedly write and read on your drive to the full capacity.  If there’s any bad sector on your drive (interpreted as NAND flash issue), you’ll hardly come through the test; if you experience unpredictable outcome, good runs mixed with failures, it is most likely the controller or its connection to NAND is flawed. Based on our years of experiences supporting customers, flash of inferior quality usually lead to duplication failures, which is why we suggest customers conduct pre-production testing of their flash on their duplicators, and adjust copy speed to accommodate quality discrepancies if necessary.  Bottomline, go with flash of known quality to save time and money for the long run!
